100 logic grid puzzles, and nothing else: no riddles, no word searches, no mazes. They climb from Medium to Expert, and every one has exactly one answer.
This book is for teens aged 12 and up who find kids' activity books too young, and for the adults who solve beside them. The goal is to climb from Medium to Expert, one puzzle a night, until a grid of five friends and four groups gives way to reasoning alone. Each puzzle takes one page: read the numbered clues, then mark the grid under them with a pencil, a check mark for what is true and an X for what is not. It is a screen-free hour for a weeknight, a long drive or a summer break.
What's inside:
- Only logic grids. 100 puzzles in four chapters of 25: Medium, Hard, Very Hard and Expert. At the back there are only work pages: the solutions, a solve log and spare grids.
- Difficulty you can see. Under every puzzle is its depth: how many rounds of reasoning it needs. Medium runs from 5 to 8 rounds, Expert from 13 to 19, and inside each chapter the depth never goes down.
- Hard means hard. Medium teaches three kinds of clue. Hard adds the exact difference ("scored exactly 10 points more"), and Very Hard adds the either-or pair. In the Expert chapter, no clue says what a named friend has.
- Every puzzle checked. A program checked all 100 puzzles by trying every possible answer: each has exactly one solution, every clue is needed, and the answer key is that solution.
- Nothing to look up. The puzzles use names, sports, ages, instruments, quiz scores, electives, summer jobs and trips from fixed lists. No puzzle asks the solver to know a fact from outside the book.
- A start for beginners. Three pages on how to solve a logic grid, a mini puzzle, and one Medium puzzle solved step by step before Puzzle 1.
- Solutions that show the way. Every one of the 100 solutions lists its steps, one move per line with its reason, then the answer. A "Stuck?" page closes each chapter, so help can come one step at a time.
- Room to start over. 16 spare grids for the three grid sizes, and a solve log for all 100 puzzles.
- Big pages. An 8.5 x 11 inch paperback, 176 pages, one puzzle per page with its own grid.
What it is not: it is not a mixed activity book, and it does not time the solver. "Expert" is the hardest level of this book, not a ranking against every puzzle book. An adult who already solves logic grids can start at Puzzle 51.
From the first "not" clue to a nineteen-round Expert grid, with every answer at the back.
Sharpen a pencil and start with Puzzle 1.
