A large print word search is only large print if the letters are measured. In this one they are: 30-point letters in every grid, with the word list on the same page.
This book is for an older reader who has done word searches for years and can no longer read the small print in a newspaper puzzle, and for the daughter, son or carer who buys it for them. The goal is one puzzle at a sitting, in letters measured at 30 points, with answers at the back in 24-point type. You work with a pen or pencil, one puzzle to a page: find each word in the grid, mark it, and check its box in the list under the grid. It makes a gift for the evening after a visit where a parent said they had finished their puzzle book, or could not see the letters in it any more.
What's inside:
- 100 puzzles, 890 words. No word is used twice in the book.
- Sizes measured, not promised. Grid letters are 30-point bold; word lists are 24-point. Both were measured on the print file, page by page, and a page at the front is printed in both sizes.
- The word list on the same page. It sits under the grid, with a box to check for each word, so you never turn the page to see what you are looking for.
- Grids that fit the page. Every grid is 9 letters across and 9 letters down, with white space around it, on 8.5 x 11 inch pages of white paper.
- A steady climb in every section. Ten sections of ten puzzles. In each, the first 4 puzzles have 8 words, across and down; the next 3 have 9; the last 3 have 10, and some run diagonally. No word runs backward. You can start at any section.
- Ten sections, 100 themes. Around the House, In the Garden, Birds and Beasts, Good Food, Weather and Seasons, Going Places, Hobbies and Pastimes, Sports, People at Work and Celebrations. The contents page lists all 100 puzzle titles, from In the Kitchen to Family Reunion.
- Answers you can read. At the back, two to a page, by puzzle number, in 24-point letters with every word marked. Each puzzle page prints the page its answer is on.
- Checked by a program. A computer program made every grid and every answer page and checked them: every listed word is in its grid, and every answer matches its puzzle.
- A puzzle log. Two pages at the back with the numbers 1 to 100 and a box to check when each puzzle is finished.
What it is not. It is not a hard puzzle book: 8 to 10 words in a 9 by 9 grid, and nothing backward. The puzzles are printed back to back, so use a pen or pencil, not a marker. It is a paperback, not spiral-bound, so it does not lie flat on its own.
Pick up a pen, open to any section, and take your time.
